Three Juvenile Carjackers Arrested After Pursuit Through Newark's South Ward

Police chased down three juvenile carjacking suspects in Newark’s South Ward Friday afternoon. 

At approximately 3:15 p.m., police were notified of a carjacking at the 7-Eleven on Elizabeth Avenue and East Runyon Street. 

Upon arrival, officers learned that suspects snatched away the victim’s vehicle via strong arm. 

Police canvassing parts of the South Ward and found the suspects driving the vehicle near Pomona Avene then attempted to get the driver to stop. 

Authorities say the high-speed pursuit touched off in several neighborhoods before the teens bailed from the car in the area of Shephard Avenue and Bergen Street. 

One of the suspects was captured near 172 Shephard Avenue while police chased down and apprehended the other juveniles near 302 Osborne Terrace. 

The victim in the carjacking did not suffer serious injuries. A police cruiser caught fire during the pursuit. 

Police are continuing to investigate.
