Newark – Acting Essex County Prosecutor Carolyn A. Murray and Newark Police Director Eugene Venable announced today that three individuals have been arrested for the murder of Qua-Shawn Chaney, 32,of Newark who was shot and killed on Clinton Place in Newark on July 16.
Jessie McNeil, 22, of Newark has been arrested and charged with conspiracy to commit murder, murder, unlawful possession of a weapon and possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose. He is being held on $850,000 bail.
Two juveniles were also arrested. A 17-year-old from Newark was charged with aggravated assault, conspiracy to commit murder, murder, unlawful possession of a weapon, and possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose. A second 17-year-old also from Newark was charged with unlawful possession of a weapon and possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose.
The names of the juveniles are not being released at this time because of their ages.
The investigation is continuing. Additional information will be released when it becomes available.
These are accusations. All defendants are presumed innocent unless and until they enter a guilty plea or are found guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law.
