Three Apprehended After Dramatic Newark Carjacking, Pursuit Ending in Irvington Township

Three suspects are in custody following a dramatic pursuit stemming from an armed carjacking incident in Newark's South Ward on Wednesday night.AdAccording to preliminary reports, the entire ordeal unfolded around 8:20 p.m. when armed individuals reportedly held up the driver of a blue Honda Civic near Hobson and Nye streets.

Upon police arrival, reports say the stolen vehicle was spotted, prompting officers to initiate a traffic stop.

However, the driver ignored police signals and sped off, leading authorities on a high-speed chase into Newark's West Ward and eventually into communities bordering Irvington Township.

In an attempt to flee, three suspects abandoned the car on 261 21st Street.AdReports say despite their efforts, two suspects were quickly apprehended by Newark police after a brief foot pursuit. Subsequently, Irvington police joined the search and successfully captured the third suspect near Averne and Eastern Parkway.

Fortunately, no injuries were reported during the pursuit.

The investigation into the armed carjacking and subsequent chase is ongoing.
