Firefighters from across Middlesex County responded to a raging three-alarm fire that tore through a two-story home in South Plainfield early Wednesday morning, leaving multiple people injured.

According to preliminary information, crews were dispatched to the 200 block of Cedarbrook Avenue after receiving reports of a fire inside a residence.

Upon arrival, firefighters encountered heavy flames coming from the structure and immediately struck a second alarm, followed shortly by a third as conditions worsened.

Firefighters stretched several hose lines and worked aggressively to knock down the fire, which remained uncontrolled as of 6 a.m.

Initial reports said three people were injured in the blaze, including at least one individual who reportedly jumped from a second-floor window to escape the flames.

One of the victims was believed to be in a life-threatening condition.

All injured occupants were transported to area hospitals for treatment.

As of early morning, crews had not yet completed a full search of the residence to determine whether additional victims may have been inside.

The cause of the fire remains under active investigation, and the Middlesex County Prosecutor’s Office has been notified.
