According to a statement released by Newark Public Safety Director Emanuel Miranda, firefighters responded to a fire at 286 14th Avenue at approximately 6:18 a.m. on Sunday, November 30.
Flames quickly spread to two adjacent buildings at 288 and 290 14th Avenue, prompting a three-alarm response with more than 110 firefighters working to bring the situation under control.
Crews managed to knock down the fire at 7:32 a.m.
While no injuries were reported, the impact on the community was significant.
More than 50 individuals and 14 families are being relocated as a result of the damage.
The cause and origin of the blaze remain under investigation by the Newark Department of Public Safety’s Arson Unit.
