Police in Edison swiftly recovered a vehicle taken after it was left running with children inside at a shopping center in the township on Saturday afternoon.
According to police officials, officers raced to the Shop Rite located at 755 Route 1 after receiving reports of a stolen vehicle shortly before 4:30 p.m.
Upon arrival, police say they found a frantic woman screaming and crying after a thief sped away with her black Infinity left running with two young children in the rear seat.
Police say they found the abandoned vehicle a short distance away with the uninjured children inside.
EMS units were called to the scene to evaluate the children and the mother, but no serious injuries were reported.
The incident is under investigation.
