Teen Driver Found Wedged Between Trees In Hopatcong

Officers were called to Sparta Stanhope Road for a report of a vehicle lodged between two trees.

Upon arrival, police found a male juvenile in a vehicle wedged between two trees approximately four feet above the ground.

The Hopatcong Fire Department arrived and secured the vehicle with chains as they helped the driver to get out of the vehicle safely. C&L towing arrived and hoisted the vehicle out of the trees.

The 17-year-old driver stated he only remembers driving and listening to music then seeing his hood bent up.

Officer Maresca investigated the scene and determined that the jubile was traveling south on Sparta Stanhope Road when the vehicle crossed over the double yellow lines into the northbound lane.

The vehicle left the roadway and went airborne and hit a tree head on. The rear of the vehicle rotated, as it came down, it became wedged between the trees.

The uninjured 17-year old was released to his parents.

The cause of the crash remains under investigation.

The above charges are merely an accusation. The defendant is presumed innocent until proven guilty
