Passaic County Prosecutor Camelia M. Valdes and Clifton Police Chief Mark Centurione

announce that based upon an investigation by the Clifton Police Department, in conjunction with the Passaic County Prosecutor’s Office, a 16-year-old juvenile was charged late Friday night in relation to a motor vehicle collision that took place on Friday, June 14 at the intersection of Paulison and Union Avenues, in the City of Clifton.

According to officials, the male juvenile is charged by way of a juvenile delinquency complaint with Aggravated Assault, Driving

Without a Driver’s License and Causing Death, and Joyriding. The juvenile was charged and transported to the Essex County Juvenile Detention Center.

Police say that on June 14, at approximately 9:01 p.m., police responded to the intersection of Paulison and Union Avenues in the City of Clifton in response to a report of a motor vehicle crash involving a car and a motorcycle.

Upon their arrival they found 25-year-old Mr. Nadeem Asfour of Paterson in the roadway, who was then transported to Saint Mary’s Hospital, police say. Mr. Asfour was pronounced deceased at the hospital.

The investigation revealed that the 16-year-old juvenile was operating a 2013 Hyundai Tuscon, when it collided with Mr. Asfour’s 2006 Suzuki motorcycle, causing Mr. Asfour to be ejected from the motorcycle, according to reports. The juvenile, who did not have a driver’s license, remained on the scene and was not injured.

A juvenile delinquency complaint is merely an accusation. Despite this accusation, the juvenile is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt.
