Teen Arrested for Possessing Loaded Gun in Newark

Police announced the arrest of a juvenile from Newark for possession of a loaded handgun Sunday

According to police at approximately 7:40 p.m., members of the Newark Police Special Enforcement Bureau (S.E.B.) were canvassing the area of Parker Street near Park Avenue when they observed a male adjusting a handgun in the waistband of his pants.

As S.E.B. detectives approached, the suspect fled on foot. Detectives observed him toss the handgun to the ground while running away.

The 17-year old suspect was apprehended and the loaded .45 caliber handgun he had tossed was located and seized by detectives.

The juvenile is charged with Unlawful Possession of a Weapon and Possession of a Prohibited Weapon.

These charges are merely accusations.

The suspect is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
