Teacher Attacked, Robbed in Newark

An attack on an educator that happened on a Newark street has police searching for a suspect.

According preliminary reports, the incident happened shortly before 1 p.m. near the Lafayette Street School (Congress and Lafayette Street) in the city's Ironbound Section when a female educator was approached by a male who demanded her cell phone before he went on the attack.

The suspect struck the educator in the face with his fist before running from the scene with her cell phone according to reports.

Police described the man as a 5'6" tall black male who was last seen wearing a blue tank top, blue shorts, and a short haircut.

The educator's injuries were reported as minor.

There were no arrests immediately reported.
