Taxi Driver Assaulted, Robbed in Vineland

Vineland

A taxi driver was robbed and assaulted shortly before midnight Sunday in Vineland.

Vineland Police responded to the area of Megan Court and Linwood Avenue for a report of a robbery to a yellow cab driver, Lt. Alan Pagnini said.

The victim, Ramon Vasquez, informed police that he was robbed and struck in the head with an unknown weapon. He was bleeding from the left side of his forehead. Vineland EMS treated the victim and transported him to Inspira Hospital, Pagnini said.

Investigation revealed Vasquez had been dispatched to an address on Linwood Avenue for a pick up and as he arrived, he was waved down by a black male and two white females. The black male walked up to the front passenger side of the Taxi, opened the door and sat down. Vasquez asked the male to sit in the back of the vehicle. The male took an unknown object out of his waist band and struck Vasquez in the left side of his head. The male struck him several times in the head and demanded money. Vasquez handed over an undisclosed amount of money.

The male suspect exited the vehicle, and all three involved ran west into the wooded area at the end of Megan Court, the lieutenant added.

Vasquez immediately contacted his dispatch center who then contacted police.

The black male subject was described as approximately 20-25 years of age, short black hair, no facial hair, and was last seen wearing a red sweatshirt. Vasquez could not describe the two females or their clothing.

A search of the area was negative for the accused.
