Tanker Truck Fire Temporarily Closes The Atlantic City Expressway

A tanker truck fire that burst into flames closed a major highway in Camden County early Monday morning.

According to police, firefighters rushed to the eastbound lanes of the Atlantic City Expressway near mile marker 28.9 after they received reports of a truck fire at approximately 1:35 a.m.

Crews arrived at the scene immediately close the highway in both directions when they found the fully involved gasoline tanker at that location.

Firefighters were able to the extinguish the blaze and prevent extensions according to fire officials.

The driver of the truck managed to escape without injury and the cause of the fire remains under investigation.

**UPDATE NJSP 6:02 a.m.** "900 gallons of gas in the tanker truck on the eastbound side near Route 73 in Winslow Township. Both sides still closed. The fire is now out but clean-up is still going on and it could take until 6:30 a.m.The driver got out and was not injured. He pulled the truck over when he noticed it caught fire. The cause of the fire is still under investigation".
