Swat Team Officer Shoots, Kills Father Accused of Holding Toddler Son Hostage in Middletown

Middletown Township New Jersey

A domestic dispute last night led to the death of a 39-year-old father who officials say held his 13-month-old son hostage.

According to the state Attorney General's Office, at approximately 11:30 p.m. yesterday, township police responded to a Bayside Parkway home for a report of a domestic dispute.

The victim, mother of the child, told police that she fled the home after intoxicated Scott McAllister had beaten her and had threatened to harm her while armed with a knife.

Upon arrival, McAllister refused to allow the police to enter the locked home, the Attorney General's Office said.

With the assistance of the Monmouth County Emergency Response Team, authorities spends hours negotiating with McAllister in attempts of a peaceful  surrender.

However, early this morning the SWAT team forced their way into the home, fatally injuring McAllister, the Attorney General's Office said. McAllister was pronounced dead at the scene.

The child was found unharmed.

The incident remains under investigation.
