Newark

Police took three suspects into custody after a car chase that ended in the suspects’ car colliding with a pregnant woman's vehicle Tuesday evening on the border of Newark’s Central and West wards.

The suspects were wanted for ramming a police car in in the 1200 block of NJ-124 Millburn earlier in the day.

Officers requested back up during a vehicle pursuit soon before 7:10 p.m. near Woodland Cemetery.

Police said they then called EMS to the scene near Avon Avenue and S. 15th Street after police chased them into the area and the suspect lost control during the high-speed pursuit and slammed into a car operated by a pregnant woman.

She was taken to the hospital for evaluation and is expected to be ok.

Within ten minutes, police said they requested assistance for crowd control.

According to a statement from Newark's public safety director, police arrested an adult and two minors in relation to the suspect vehicle.

Police said they found a handgun in the car.

Two officers were taken to the hospital with "pain complaints due to crowd control."
