Police in Newark's East Ward took several males into custody and charged them with occupying a vehicle that was carjacked at a location in the city on Saturday.
According to preliminary reports, police spotted the car in the vicinity of Jefferson and Downing streets shortly before 12:30 a.m. and conducted a registration check.
Information regarding the vehicle came back that the car was carjacked in an unspecified area of Newark, according to reports.
Police say four suspects were taken into custody and initially charged with receiving stolen property until the investigation is complete.
