Newark New Jersey

A suspect wanted for shots fired, kidnapping, and attempted carjacking incidents in Jersey City was taken into custody after a high-speed pursuit in Newark on Monday morning.

According to preliminary reports, police in Jersey City searched for the armed suspect after the assailant approached a male victim on Wales Avenue and attempted a carjacking.

Reports say the suspect kidnapped the man then drove him several blocks before the victim escaped the car.

The armed man then drove to another section of Jersey City and found several women inside a vehicle. He attempted to carjack them before the quick-thinking driver placed the car in reverse and sped away from the suspect.

According to a preliminary investigation, the suspect began firing at the women, and several bullets struck their vehicle. No one inside suffered injuries.

While Jersey City Police attempted to piece both situations together, the suspect made his way into Newark's North Ward in a Nissan. He then fired several rounds at unknown targets in the 600 block of Summer Avenue.

According to reports, Newark officers arrived on the scene, and a brief pursuit occurred where the suspect damaged cars in Newark during his quest to evade capture.

Police took the suspect into custody in the vicinity of Summer Avenue and Kearny Street and reportedly recovered a weapon at the scene just before 4 a.m.

The suspect required medical attention for non-life-threatening injuries.

Jersey City authorities are sure that the suspected arrested by Newark Police is wanted for the two prior felonies.
