A daring daylight robbery at Coimbra Jewelers in the Ironbound district has left Newark Police appealing to the public for assistance.

Police said on September 18, 2023, at around 1:12 p.m., a thief made off a staggering $11,050 worth of jewelry from the store on the 50 block of Ferry Street.

Surveillance footage reveals a Black male, initially clad in a black hoodie and a green-colored vest, shattering the store's display case using a hammer. Theft He then seized several jewelry items, including 18kt diamond earrings, a 14kt white gold chain, two silver chains, two watches, a 14kt yellow gold bracelet, and a diamond-encrusted 14kt gold ring.

Interestingly, the same footage later captured the suspect in the act of changing his attire multiple times, presumably in a bid to evade identification, before making his getaway on the Newark Penn Station Light Rail.

Director Fragé of the Newark Police Division is actively urging anyone with potential leads on the suspect to reach out immediately. Those with information can dial the 24-hour Crime Stopper tip line at 1-877-NWK-TIPS (1-877-695-8477).
