Police broke off a pursuit of a car that was stolen from a location in Hillside this afternoon.
According to police, the owner of the vehicle stopped to unload packages from the car in the 70’s block of Hillside Avenue before 3:50 p.m.
Police say the suspect hid behind vehicles, then jumped into the car and easily sped away from the scene.
Officials put out a ”be on the lookout” alert to surrounding police departments for a Volvo X6 with a NJ license plate number ”UAJ-52C”.
Newark Police managed to pull the car over in the area of Clinton and Lyons avenues, but the driver sped away when the officer began to investigate.
The vehicle was last seen in the area of Hobson Street and Nye Avenue. Police said the suspect is a black male who wore a white t-shirt.
No injuries were reported.
