Suspect Occupying Armed Carjacked Vehicle Out of Elizabeth Killed on Parkway

Authorities from the NJ State Police and Elizabeth Police are investigating an armed carjacking that occurred overnight in Elizabeth that ended in the suspect killed on the Garden State Parkway on the Irvington-Newark boarder.

The incident unfolded at around 1 a.m. in the area of Spring Street and William Street when a male suspect approached the victim, who was occupying a white 2011 Nissan Maxima and demanded the vehicle with the gun pointed.

The suspect reportedly sped away from the scene.

According to preliminary reports, at around 2 a.m., NJ State Troopers responded to a motor vehicle crash in the northbound lanes of the Garden state Parkway near exit 143.

Officers reportedly came across a two-car crash with an unoccupied damaged white vehicle on the shoulder of the road and began to investigate.

During the investigation, police noticed another accident in the southbound lanes near exit 144 and began to investigate where they found an unconscious and unresponsive person lying on the roadway.

Police shut down all southbound lanes where they began an investigation which revealed that the driver of the damaged vehicle in the northbound lanes was struck by a passing car after exiting the vehicle and attempting to run across the highway according to reports.

Police confirmed the damaged car that the injured person occupied, as the carjacked vehicle from Elizabeth reports said.

The unidentified injured person suffered a massive leg injury and was pronounced dead at the scene.

According to reports, police found a weapon in the vehicle and believe that the fatally struck victim is the suspect involved in the carjacking.

The investigation is active and ongoing.
