Suspect Injured in Police Involved Shooting in Paterson

New Jersey officials are investigating a police-involved shooting that occurred in Paterson on Saturday night.

According to a preliminary investigation, police attempted to pull over a vehicle that came back stolen after a registration check, but the driver reportedly ignored officers and sped away on West Broadway at around 8 p.m.

Reports say the suspect fired at least one round near Presidential Boulevard during the pursuit then continued speeding away from officers.

The chase came to an end in the area of Van Houten Avenue and Straight Street where at least one officer reportedly opened fire on the suspect, striking him in the leg at that location.

EMS transported the male to St. Joseph's Hospital, where his injuries were not reported as life-threatening.

The incident remains under investigation. There were no injuries to officers.
