Suspect Captured in Paterson Shooting

Passaic County Prosecutor Camelia M. Valdes and Paterson Police Chief Ibrahim Baycora announce that based upon an investigation by the Paterson Police Department Angel Florian, 19, from Paterson, was arrested on April 29, 2020 in relation to a shooting investigation that took place February 6, 2020 in the area of North 4th Street Paterson.

Mr. Florian is charged with Attempted Murder, First Degree; Attempted Murder (accomplice liability), First Degree; Unlawful Possession of a Handgun, Second Degree; Possession of a Handgun for an Unlawful Purpose, Second Degree; Unlawful Possession of a Weapon (knife), Fourth Degree; and Possession of a Weapon (knife) for an Unlawful Purpose, Third Degree.

Mr. Florian is also charged with Armed Robbery, First Degree; Unlawful Possession of a Handgun, Second Degree; Possession of a Handgun for an Unlawful Purpose, Second Degree (5 counts); Burglary, Third Degree; Aggravated Assault, Third Degree (3 counts); Aggravated Assault, Fourth Degree (2 Counts) for an incident that occurred March 2, 2020.

Mr. Florian is additionally charged with Armed Robbery, First Degree; Unlawful Possession of a Handgun, Second Degree; and Possession of a Handgun for an Unlawful Purpose, Second Degree for an incident that occurred January 18, 2020.

Police say on February 6, at approximately 6:43 p.m., members of the Paterson Police Department responded to the area of North 4th Street on a report of shots fired.

Upon arrival the police located an 18-year-old male Paterson resident who had suffered non-fatal stab wounds.

The victim was immediately transported to Saint Joseph’s Regional Medical Center in Paterson for treatment.

Based on the investigation, it was determined a male actor fired a handgun at the victim almost striking him, at which point a fight ensued where the victim was stabbed by a second unidentified actor.

Angel Florian was identified as the actor who fired the handgun and a warrant for his arrest was issued.

Police say on March 2, at approximately 10:20 p.m., members of the Paterson Police Department responded to the area of Godwin Avenue on a report of a male with a handgun. Based on the

investigation it was determined that three male parties entered a residence in the area of Godwin Avenue.

One of the males pointed a handgun at a 24-year-old female Paterson resident and proceeded to rob the victim(s).

The other victims were a 36-year-old male Paterson resident, 19-year-old female Paterson resident, 20-year-old male Paterson resident, and 24-year- old male Paterson resident.

The 24-year-old male Paterson resident and 19-year-old female Paterson resident were transported to Saint Joseph’s Regional Medical Center in Paterson for treatment from injuries sustained during the robbery.

Angel Florian was identified as the actor who pointed the handgun during the robbery and a warrant for his arrest was issued.

Mr. Florian is also charged in relation to another robbery occurred January 18, 2020 in the area of East 22nd Street Paterson, NJ at approximately 11:15 p.m.

Based on the investigation Mr. Florian was identified and an arrest warrant was issued.

Mr. Florian was arrested on April 29, 2020 at approximately 11:20.m. in the area of East Railway Paterson, NJ.
