Suspect Arrested, Another Sought in Fatal Jersey City Beating

Officials have issued an arrest warrant for a man wanted in connection to a fatal beating, after one was arrested on Monday.

According to authorities, on July 30th, members of the Hudson County Prosecutor’s Office Homicide Unit arrested Bruce Stewart, 24, of West New York, in the area of Union and Sackett streets in Jersey City without incident in connection with the death of Glen Mackie, Jr., that occurred on Lexington Avenue in Jersey City earlier this month.

Officials charged Stewart with Reckless Manslaughter. Stewart made his first appearance on these charges in Criminal Justice Reform Court in the Hudson County Administration Building in Jersey City earlier this afternoon.

Additionally, Prosecutor Suarez announced that an arrest warrant has been issued for Elnardo Chandler, 29, of Jersey City in connection with this incident. Officials charged Chandler with Reckless Manslaughter.

According to authorities, on July 5th, at approximately 12:15 a.m., Jersey City Police Officers were dispatched to the area of Lexington Avenue in Jersey City on a report of a street fight.

Upon arrival, responding officers found Mackie, 29, of Jersey City, on the sidewalk in the area of 21 Lexington Avenue.

Officials say Mackie was unresponsive with an obvious wound to his head. He was transported by Emergency Medical Services to the Jersey City Medical Center were he was pronounced dead at approximately 5 p.m. on July 6th.

The Medical Examiner has determined the cause of death to be blunt force trauma to the head and manner of death to be homicide.

The above charges are merely accusations, and the defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty.
