Newark Public Safety Director Emanuel Miranda, Sr. is asking for the public’s assistance in identifying a male suspect connected to a theft that occurred Sunday evening in the city.
According to authorities, the incident took place on Sunday, December 21, 2025, at approximately 8:43 p.m. near the intersection of Monroe Street and Downing Street.
The suspect is accused of removing the front license plate from a vehicle parked in the area.
The victim later reviewed surveillance footage, which allegedly shows the suspect placing the license plate into a backpack before walking southbound on Monroe Street.
Police describe the suspect as a Black male wearing all-black clothing, white Nike Air Max sneakers, and carrying a dark blue backpack.
