RLS Media has learned that Mr. Jean Pierre Valencia, the rising star in amateur boxing from Irvington Township, has emerged as the undisputed 165-pound king of New York.

According to Valencia's promoters, on Friday, July 28, he completed a remarkable sweep of the New York Tournament with a devastating first-round knockout of Israel Bailey in the open-class finals at the Classic Car Club Manhattan at Pier 76 in New York City.

Living up to his moniker "El Verdugo de Esmeraldas," Valencia delivered a crushing left hook that sent the much larger Bailey from The Bronx to the canvas within two minutes of the round.

Valencia's promoters told RLS Media although Bailey valiantly rose to his feet on unsteady legs, another powerful hook from Valencia brought him down again.

Referee Ernesto Rodriguez wisely halted the bout at the 2:43 mark, declaring Valencia the victor.

After the fight, the 23-year-old Valencia humbly dedicated his triumph to his corner, family, and support team. Head trainer Ryan Songalia and conditioning coach Aaron Watson have been instrumental in his journey.

RLS Media reported on Valencia several months ago and acknowledged that his success has been impressive since he moved to the United States a year ago.

He secured the 2022 N.J. Diamond Gloves novice title and the 2023 N.J. Golden Gloves open class title. Additionally, he achieved a remarkable bronze medal at the 2023 National Golden Gloves.

His New York tournament run began on July 21, where he showcased his skills by overpowering former New York Ring Masters champion Jeminie Ramirez with a third-round stoppage in the semifinal round.

Some doubted Valencia's abilities against the formidable Bailey, who had scored a remarkable second-round knockout in his semifinal bout. However, Valencia swiftly silenced any doubts with his rapid victory over a fighter who had reached the Ring Masters Championship finals earlier in the year.

Promoters said Songalia, Valencia's trainer, praised his unparalleled work ethic and unwavering determination. He firmly believes that Jean Pierre Valencia is his weight class's best amateur boxer in the country.

Valencia now sets his sights on the future with an impressive amateur record of 21-2. He plans to compete in the New Jersey Diamond Gloves again this year, followed by another shot at the Golden Gloves title, before embarking on a professional boxing career.

The Honorable Mayor Tony Vauss praised Valencia's talent and saluted him for bringing the title home to Irvington.

As Valencia continues his ascent in the boxing world, Irvington Township fans eagerly anticipate witnessing his future victories and applaud his dedication to the sport.
