An investigation is underway after one student was stabbed and another was taken into police custody Tuesday afternoon outside a public high school in Paterson, authorities said.

According to a spokesperson for the Paterson Police Department, the incident occurred outside John F. Kennedy High School near the intersection of Preakness Avenue and Walnut Street.
Police said the stabbing happened shortly after school dismissal.
The injured student sustained wounds that were not considered life-threatening. No other injuries were reported.
Both the victim and the other student involved were transported to St. Joseph’s University Medical Center for medical evaluation.
Authorities did not disclose why the second student was hospitalized.

Police said no charges have been filed at this time. The investigation remains active, and no further details were immediately available.
