Student Attacks Police Officer, Teacher at Newark Elementary School

A police officer was transported to University Hospital after a teenage boy went on the attack, striking the officer at an elementary school in Newark this afternoon.

The incident unfolded at the Peshine Avenue School a little after 3 p.m. when police were called to the scene after receiving reports of a student who assaulted a teacher inside of the school.

Arriving officers located the student and began to investigate the situation.

According to preliminary reports, the boy began to attack the female officer who was attempting to restrain him, causing non-life threatening injuries to the officers face.

The boy was subdued and taken into custody by assisting police officers.

The teacher did not suffer serious injuries.

The incident is under investigation by the Newark Police Department.
