After a beautiful and pleasant Saturday across North Jersey, the weather took a tumultuous turn during the evening hours as a powerful cold front swept through the region, bringing strong thunderstorms, damaging wind gusts, heavy rainfall, and localized flooding.

The National Weather Service had issued Severe Thunderstorm Watch 281 for portions of northeastern New Jersey, including Bergen, Essex, Hudson, Passaic, and Union counties, as storms rapidly developed and moved across the area.

As the line of storms intensified, strong winds toppled trees and large branches in several communities, including Newark, Kearny, Jersey City, and West Orange.

Emergency crews responded to multiple reports of downed trees, debris blocking roadways, and power lines affected by the severe weather.

Heavy rainfall also created pockets of flooding in low-lying and poor drainage areas, causing hazardous travel conditions for motorists during the evening commute and overnight hours.

Officials spent the overnight period assessing damage caused by the storms.

While no serious injuries were immediately reported, municipal officials continued evaluating storm-related incidents Sunday morning and were working to determine whether any additional injuries or significant property damage occurred.

Cleanup operations were underway across several communities as public works crews and utility personnel worked to remove fallen trees and restore normal conditions.

Authorities urged residents to use caution around damaged trees, downed wires, and flooded roadways as assessments continue.

Additional information will be provided as local municipalities complete their damage surveys and release updated reports throughout the day.
