Strong Armed Robbery Suspect Apprehended in Newark

A strong armed robbery that happened in the city's North Ward had Police apprehend a man yesterday.

The incident happened in the area of Lake Street and Bloomfield Avenue when a male suspect who was riding a bike reportedly approached a woman and took personal possessions around noon.

Police who were already investigating reports of shots fired in the area responded to the report and located the suspect a short distance away where they placed the man under arrest without incident.

In a separate incident, a late night report of a strong armed robbery that was called in by an off-duty police officer at an address in the 400 block of North 7th Street had police respond to the scene.

According to reports, the officer was approached by his neighbor who told him that about 2-3 black male suspects exited a grey colored vehicle (possibly a Nissan Sentra) and ordered personal possessions before speeding away from the scene with the items.

The suspected vehicle has a reported partial plate of "L82" and is possibly wanted for an earlier robbery that occured on Ridge Street reports said.

There were no injuries immediately reported in any off the incidents.
