Stray Bullet Breaks Through Glass of United Community Corporation Building in Newark

Gunfire erupted just outside and elementary school in Newark penetrating a window of a building owned and operated by United Community Corporation in Newark.

The incident happened sometime after 1 p.m. where officers set up a crime scene on 14th Avenue and searched the area around the Reservoir Apartment Housing Complex after reports of shots fired rang out in the area that has the 14th Avenue School less than 200 feet away.

Police canvassing the scene notice that a single bullet broke the glass and entered the United Community Corporation Building. There were no injuries reported.

According to the corporation's website, the building houses case management social service counselors, a food pantry, a clothing closet, and other services.

UCC serves more than 1,200 individuals annually in all neighborhoods, communities, and wards of Newark; and their Emergency Services alone annually reach 650 people who are unable to access public assistance the time od emergencies.

The motive for the shooting is under investigation.

There were no arrests made.
