We’re waking up to another warm and humid start to the workweek across Newark and the North Jersey region, with more summer heat expected throughout the day.
Good Monday morning, New Jersey!
It’s more of the same across the region today: hazy, hot and humid conditions, with a Heat Advisory in effect as temperatures climb into the 90s and heat index values approach 100 degrees in some areas.
At 4:30 a.m., it’s already 74 degrees in downtown Newark, with similar temperatures reported across much of North Jersey.
If you’re heading out early for work, walking the dog or making your way to the bus or train, expect a warm and muggy start.
Conditions will become increasingly uncomfortable as temperatures rise through the morning and afternoon.
According to the National Weather Service, there is a slight chance of showers and thunderstorms between 2 p.m. and 5 p.m.
Showers will become more likely after 5 p.m., with thunderstorms also possible.
Clouds will increase throughout the day as temperatures reach a high near 93 degrees. The heat index could make it feel as hot as 97 degrees. Winds will be calm early before becoming southwest at 5 to 9 mph during the afternoon.
The chance of precipitation is 60 percent.
Tonight, showers and thunderstorms are likely before 11 p.m., followed by a slight chance of showers through approximately 2 a.m.
Otherwise, skies will remain mostly cloudy, with temperatures dropping to around 74 degrees overnight.
Make sure to stay hydrated, limit strenuous outdoor activity during the hottest part of the day and keep an eye on the sky later this afternoon as storms begin developing.
