State Police Arrest Tax Collector for Stealing More than $75K of Payments

West Trenton, N.J. - The New Jersey State Police have arrested Rachellyn Mosher, 48, of Lopatcong Township, N.J., for stealing more than $75,000 of property tax payments from residents in White Township, Harmony Township, and Lopatcong Township in Warren County.

After an 11-month investigation conducted by the New Jersey State Police Official Corruption North Unit and the Warren County Prosecutor’s Office, detectives determined that from 2013 through 2018, Rachellyn Mosher stole more than $75,000 worth of cash property tax payments made by residents while performing her duties as a tax collector.

In order to conceal her thefts, Mosher allegedly falsified each township’s computerized tax records.

With assistance from the Warren County Prosecutor’s Office and Lopatcong Township Police Department, Rachellyn Mosher was arrested on Friday, November 2, in Lopatcong Township.

Officials say Mosher was charged with three counts of official misconduct (2nd degree ), three counts of a pattern of official misconduct (2nd degree), theft (2nd degree), two counts theft (3rd degree), and three counts of tampering with public records (3rd degree). She was lodged at the Warren County Jail pending a bail detention hearing.

This case will be prosecuted by the Warren County Prosecutor’s Office.

Charges are mere accusations, and the accused is considered innocent until proven guilty.
