South River Man Charged with Stabbing his 60-Year-Old Mother Multiple Times

Middlesex County Acting Prosecutor Christopher L.C. Kuberiet and Chief Mark Tinitigan of the South River Police Department said today that a 33-year-old borough man has been arrested and charged with the attempted murder of his mother.

Officlias say Mr. Kazufumi Nakatani, 33, of South River was arrested and charged with attempted murder in the first degree and possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose in the third degree.

Accoridng to police, on Friday, at approximately 2:38 pm an off-duty corrections officer came upon a woman, the apparent victim of multiple stab wounds, on the sidewalk outside of her home and called the police for assistance.

Officials say The South River Police responded to the location and requested assistance from the Middlesex County Special Operations Response Team. SORT made entry to the home and apprehended the suspect who would not answer the door and allow police to enter the home.

During the investigation by the South River Police Department and the Middlesex County Prosecutor’s Office, it was determined that the defendant stabbed his 60-year old mother multiple times in the home they shared on Fairview Avenue Drive in South River.

He is currently being held at the Middlesex County Adult Corrections Center.
