Police in South Brunswick are searching for a man who allegedly robbed a woman at gunpoint Monday morning in the parking lot of a local preschool.

Authorities said the woman was dropping off her child at The Sapling School on Route 27 in the Kendall Park section of town when  Nathan Edwards Simpson, a man known to her, approached with a firearm and demanded her cell phone.

The robbery occurred around 9 a.m., prompting officers to place a nearby school in a shelter-in-place while they searched the surrounding area.

Simpson fled on foot, and despite an extensive search, police were unable to locate him.

South Brunswick investigators are continuing efforts to find Simpson and ask anyone with information about his whereabouts to contact the department.
