A police vehicle and tractor trailer were rear-ended by a third vehicle sending the officer and one of the driver to the hospital in South Brunswick.
Police responded to Route 130 near Route 522 shortly before 2 p.m. for a report of a crash.
According to reports, the officer was on the right shoulder issuing a speeding summons to a tractor trailer when third vehicle struck both the officer's car and the tractor trailer from behind.
The officer and driver of the tractor trailer were been taken to Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital with nonlife-threatening injuries.
The crash remains under investigation.
