South 10th Street Shots Fired Incident Under Investigation in Newark

Newark

Police in Newark are looking into the motive behind a shooting that occurred near a school in the city's West Ward Thursday afternoon.

According to police, units responded to the 300 block of South 10th Street after they received reports of shots fired just before 5 p.m.

When units arrived at the scene, they taped off the area after finding shell casings in the vicinity of John F. Kennedy School, according to police.

Police say residents informed them that a vehicle sped from the scene with a possible victim, but a search of the neighborhood indicated no injuries.

Officials alerted hospitals in the region to be on the look-out for possible walk-in gunshot victims.

The suspect remains at-large.
