A cadet that was killed in an accident where a truck flipped over during a vigorous training exercise is being reported as an Essex County Resident according to a source familiar with the investigation.

According to a statement from West Point Lt. Gen. Darryl A. Williams, on Thursday morning, a troop vehicle carrying 19 cadets and two soldiers rolled over while on its way to a training exercise at the US Military Academy at West Point.

Lt. Gen. Darryl A. Williams said one cadet suffered fatal injuries and 21 others -including two soldiers- suffered non-life-threatening injuries, including facial abrasions and a broken arm.

A source told RLS Metro that the fatally injured cadet was a West Orange resident but would not immediately release the cadet's name until the family has been appropriately notified. A West Orange official reached last night by phone would not comment in detail on the incident but would only say a statement may be released on Friday morning regarding the sad incident.

West Point Lt. Gen. Darryl A. Williams said the truck weighed about five tons was driving through rough terrain when it rolled over while preparing for the training exercise. Nineteen of the injured were taken to a regional medical facility suffering non-fatal injuries.

President Donald Trump said the following in a statement released on Twitter: "So sorry to hear about the terrible accident involving our GREAT West Point Cadets. We mourn the loss of life and pray for the injured. God Bless them ALL"!

The official cause of the crash remains under investigation.
