A Somerset County man admitted in federal court that he distributed fentanyl and heroin connected to the death of a victim, federal authorities said.

According to U.S. Attorney Robert Frazer, Thomas Kane Miller, 41, of Somerset, pleaded guilty before U.S. District Judge Robert Kirsch in Trenton federal court to three counts of distribution and possession with intent to distribute fentanyl and heroin.
Federal officials said that in October 2022, Miller distributed a substance containing fentanyl and heroin to a person in Somerset County who later died after using it.
Authorities said Miller also distributed fentanyl and heroin on two other occasions in December 2022 and January 2023 in Somerset and Middlesex counties.
Each of the three drug distribution counts carries a maximum penalty of 20 years in prison, and the sentences could run consecutively. Each count also carries a possible $1 million fine, along with supervised release after any prison term.

Miller is scheduled to be sentenced on September 9, 2026.
