Acting Somerset County Prosecutor Annmarie Taggart and Somerset County Prosecutor's Office Chief of County Detectives John W. Fodor announced the observation of National Crime Victims' Rights Week.
According to the Somerset County Prosecutor's Office, in commemoration of National Crime Victims' Rights Week (NCVRW), April 24-30, 2022, the Somerset County Prosecutor's Office is decorating all police cars in the county with magnets to raise awareness about crime victims' issues and rights and introduce the community to the important resources and services available.
The magnets display this year's theme - RIGHTS, ACCESS, EQUITY, for all victims.
Somerset County officials say the faces of crime victims are those of our family, friends, neighbors, and community members.
While we can never truly understand the depth of their trauma and the impact on their lives, we can ensure that equitable, inclusive, culturally appropriate, and gender-responsive services are available to help them.
According to Somerset County officials, by enforcing victims’ rights, expanding access to services, and upholding the principles of equity and inclusivity for all, we can enable crime victims to find the justice they seek, in whatever form that might take.
Acting Prosecutor Taggart stated, "National Crime Victims' Rights Week is a time to recognize the resilience of crime victims while remembering our core mission of ensuring victims' rights and justice for all. While this past year we continued to struggle with the pandemic, the Somerset County Prosecutor's Office is proud of its advocates, law enforcement professionals, and prosecutors who continued to adapt to ensure crime victims were heard.
This week, we continue to honor crime victims by enforcing victims' rights, expanding service access, and ensuring equity and inclusion for victims first."
