ShotSpotter Device Detects Over a Dozen Rounds of Gunfire in Newark's West Ward

Newark Police are searching for a suspect following a shooting in the city's West Ward that occurred just after midnight.

The incident was first detected by a ShotSpotter device, which alerted the authorities to over 18 rounds of gunfire near 180 Fairmount Avenue.AdResponding police units discovered multiple shell casings at the scene. However, a thorough search of the area revealed no victims.

The suspect managed to flee the scene before the police arrived and is currently at large.

At this time, the motive behind the shooting remains unclear, and the Newark Police Department has not released any further details.

The investigation is ongoing, and police are calling on anyone with information about the incident or the whereabouts of the suspect to come forward.
