ShotSpotter Device Detects Nearly a Dozen Rounds in Newark's South Ward; Property Damage

Paterson

Police reported property damage in a shots-fired incident in Newark's South Ward Tuesday night.

According to police, at approximately 9:45 p.m., shooters fired multiple rounds at unknown targets near Grumman and Maple avenues.

When officers arrived at the scene, they found a car struck by several bullets and just under a dozen shell casings at that location.

Police said a search of the neighborhood indicated no victims and officials alerted hospitals in the region to be on the lookout for potential walk-in gunshot patients.

Authoritities believe a silver Honda observed speeding from the scene is connected with the shooting.

The investigation remains active and ongoing.
