ShotSpotter Device Alerts Newark Police to Gunfire, No Victims Found

Newark Police were quick to respond to an alert signaled by a ShotSpotter device that detected gunfire in a city neighborhood on Friday evening.AdThe incident occurred just before 7:15 p.m. in the area of 154 South 12th Street, where officers were dispatched following the activation of the gunfire detection system.

Upon their arrival, police found shell casings at the scene and promptly called in the Shooting Response Team to aid in the investigation.

A thorough search of the area confirmed that there were no gunshot victims. However, a juvenile was treated for shock at the scene, although not directly hit by gunfire.AdThe circumstances that led to the shooting are still under investigation as detectives work to piece together the events that triggered the gunfire.

The ShotSpotter device has proven instrumental in enabling a swift police response, although the shooter remains unidentified and at large.

Newark Police are continuing their inquiry into the incident and are urging anyone with information to come forward to assist in resolving the case.
