A tense situation unfolded in Secaucus Sunday evening after police responded to reports of gunfire that appeared to be directed at officers, prompting a massive law enforcement response and a temporary shelter-in-place order for nearby residents.

According to preliminary details, Secaucus Police began pursuing a suspect believed to be armed after shots were fired in a neighborhood along the 20s block of County Road around 8 p.m.

Authorities said the individual allegedly fired a weapon in the direction of officers before barricading himself inside a building.

In response, multiple law enforcement agencies from Hudson County—including New Jersey State Police and SWAT—were called in to assist.

Officers established a perimeter and instructed residents in the area to remain indoors while the operation unfolded.

At approximately 9:45 p.m., the suspect was taken into custody without further incident, and police confirmed that the shelter-in-place advisory had been lifted.

Secaucus Police later stated that no weapon was recovered at the scene. While there were reports of a second potential suspect, authorities have not confirmed any additional arrests.

“There is no further threat to the public,” Secaucus Police said in a public message after the situation was resolved.

The investigation remains active and ongoing. No injuries were reported.
