Shots were fired in Newark’s West Ward Sunday night, prompting police to search area hospitals for any possible victims connected to the incident.
The gunfire was reported around 7:45 p.m. near 250 Georgia King Village after a ShotSpotter device detected multiple rounds.
When officers arrived, they quickly taped off the area and recovered several shell casings.
Witnesses at the scene told police they believed a person who may have been struck by gunfire walked away bleeding shortly after the shots were fired.
As a precaution, authorities alerted University Hospital to be prepared for a potential walk-in gunshot victim.
By late Sunday evening, no injuries had been confirmed.
The suspect fled the area and remains at large as the investigation continues.
