A homicide investigation is underway at an eatery after a shooting left one person dead overnight in Newark.
Police were called to 415 Hawthorne Avenue after they recived reports of shots fired that rang out before midnight.
Several police units arrived to the scene to find one person shot dead inside the establishment that sold fast food and pizza according to reports.
According to The Essex County Prosecutor's Office, the investigation into the shooting is in its preliminary stages but the victim is a male, and the department's Major Crimes Task Force is leading the investigation.
There were reports of other injuries but none resulted in fatalities.
Detectives set up a crime scene and search for evidence to support a motive for the shooting.
The identity of the victim has not been released at this time.
