Shooting Leaves One Critical After Reported Armed Robbery; Second Overnight Shooting

Authorities in Elizabeth are investigating a shooting that left one person in critical condition overnight.

Gunfire rang out in the area of South Park and Second Streets at around 11:45 p.m. sending heavy police presence to the scene where they reportedly found evidence of a shooting but no victim at that immediate location.

A thorough search of the area had police locate the victim shot and suffering serious injuries a couple of blocks away on Community Lane.

The victim was rushed to University Hospital in Newark in critical condition.

A preliminary investigation revealed that the victim was robbed of a cell phone when the suspects opened fire striking the victim several times. The victim managed to run from the scene to Community Lane.

Police also suspect armed robbery of a cell phone as the motive for a 9:30 p.m. shooting that happened in the 100 block of East Jersey Street (Correction from our original post of West Jersey Street) where one person was struck by gunfire at that location.

The victim was transported to University Hospital in an unknown condition.

A description of a suspect/s was not immediately available.

Both shootings are under invetsigation by the Elizabeth Police Department.
