A double shooting incident in a section of Newark killed one person and seriously injured another Wednesday night.
According to police, at approximately 11:07 p.m., a gunman fired multiple rounds of gunfire in the area of North 7th and Orange Street.
Police officers rushed to the scene and found one person fatally struck by bullets near 7th Avenue and North 7th Street and a second victim suffering non-fatal gunshot wounds near Orange and North 7th streets.
EMS transported the injured male to University Hospital for treatment while police secured the scene for the Essex County Prosecutor's Office to arrive and conduct the investigation.
A third person that police initially believed to have been shot suffered injuries from another incident and was not struck by gunfire.
The motive for the shooting is under investigation.
The gunman fled the scene and is at large.
