The Essex County Prosecutor's Office has launched an investigation into a deadly shooting that occurred Friday evening in a Newark neighborhood.
According to county officials, gunfire rang out on South 19th Street at approximately shortly before 6:30 p.m. sending police to the scene to investigate.
When officers arrived, county officials say they found a severely injured male suffering bullet wounds at that location.
According to The Essex County Prosecutor's Office, the unidentified male was pronounced dead a short time later.
Residents in the community told RLS Media that they did not hear shots fired. The said they did observe police taping off the area while detective rang doorbells in search for anyone who has seen anything.
The motive for the shooting remains under investigation and the suspect is at-large.
