Shell Casings Recovered After Gunfire Erupts in Newark

Police are investigating a shooting that occurred at a location in Newark late Thursday night.

According to police, at approximately 11:50 p.m., a ShotSpotter activated notified police of a shooting in the 400 block of Irvine Turner Boulevard.

Officers arrived and found several shell casings, but after a search of the neighborhood, there were no injured victims, according to police.

Police are attempting to determine if a masked male detained in a nearby foot pursuit is responsible for the shooting. Police captured the suspect in the area of Muhammad Ali and Irvine Turner Boulevard without further incident.

The shooting is the second shots fired incident on Irvine Turner Boulevard for Thursday.
