Shell Casings Found After Weekend Shooting in Newark’s South Ward

Police in Newark are investigating a shooting that occurred in the city’s South Ward over the weekend.

According to preliminary information, officers initially responded Saturday to reports of gunfire in the area of Empire Street and Frelinghuysen Avenue. 

A search of the area at that time did not immediately turn up evidence.
 

Authorities returned to the scene on Sunday, where they located shell casings connected to the incident.

 

Police conducted a canvass of the area for potential victims, but no serious injuries were reported.
