Sexual Assault Charges Against Mercer County Corrections Officer Dismissed

Mercer County Prosecutor's Office announced that charges against a Mercer County corrections officer and former union president charged - with raping two women in Trenton - have been dismissed.

According to Mercer County Prosecutor's Office spokeswoman Casey DeBlasio dismissed the case Tuesday, for investigating purposes. 

"There are certain investigative items that are taking longer than anticipated, and the state felt it was in the interest of justice to dismiss the charges at this time," DeBlasio said in a statement.

According to officials because the charges were dismissed without prejudice, they can be refiled if additional evidence surfaces.

Police said that Donald Ryland, of Hamilton, allegedly assaulted at least two woman in the fall.

According to authorities on October 12 when Trenton patrol units responded to a residence on Riverside Avenue for an unknown trouble call. Officers located the adult female victim with a visible laceration and swelling of her left eye.

The victim described the suspect and stated she entered his vehicle and was driven to an unknown area. When she got to the porch of an unknown residence, the suspect grabbed her by the throat, put her in a headlock, struck her head against the porch and punched her in the head before sexually assaulting her and fleeing the area.
